About the Role

 

We are looking for a Paralegal to join our Brands team! You will support and manage the brand protection management and anti-piracy enforcement efforts for WildBrain Brands.

Responsibilities

Every day is different and brings new problems and challenges to solve. Typically you’ll be:

 

  • Under the supervision of the IP Legal Director, support and manage the brand protection management and anti-piracy enforcement efforts for WildBrain Brands.
  • Use IP protection tools to search and remove infringing products and content pertaining to the WildBrain Brands.
  • Liaise between the product development team and Brands team to review suspected counterfeits.
  • Maintain a schedule of suspected counterfeit goods and pending proceedings and actions.
  • Provide support for IP proceedings and actions including reviewing and organizing documents and other evidentiary materials.
  • Undertaking trademark database searches (on WildBrain external counsel database).
  • Processing China Whitelist Requests and liaising with Chinese external counsel to update with approved manufacturers.
  • Drafting Customs (trademark release) letters.
  • Drafting letters of authorisation.
  • Reviewing or providing manufacturer’s agreements, where relevant.
  • Providing Certificates of Origin.
  • Collecting licensee insurance certificates annually and tracking to request renewal certificates.
  • Drafting routine correspondence and notices based on templates including non-payment demand letters, breach of contract letters, assignment and novation letters.
  • Liaising between licensees and finance team to ensure withholding tax certificates are provided.
  • Sending expiry letters when licenses will not be renewed.
  • Preparing cover letters for document exchange (when digital is not acceptable).
  • Enter WildBrain proposals into the contract management system (West End, CRM) for WildBrain agents (third party and CPLG).
  • Assist WildBrain brand client services team to track all third-party agent licenses.
  • Manage and track contracts including entering contract information into status reports for the Brands Team.
  • Draft basic agreements, amendments and other legal documents from templates.
  • Supporting the Director of Legal Affairs including managing and tracking requests from the Brands team, promotional and service agreements, drafts of agreements for live appearances, and admin support

Qualifications

 

  • Organised and hard-working, with an attention to detail and an ability to prioritise.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, admin systems ideally Jaguar/West End and CRM.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal and good communication skills.
  • Team player, flexible, able to work independently, with initiative and a willingness to learn.
